Hello everyone!
Very often we look at ourselves and we see all our imperfections. We failed here – we failed there. We did not intend to fail, but we did. Maybe we were rude to someone or lost patience. We look at ourselves and notice all our faults. Yet we look at others and see how much “better” they are and we wonder why we can’t be that good.
I’ve found in talking to people, that the people we see as “good”, feel the same way about themselves as we do! We know us. We know every bad thought, every moment when we did not “measure up”. However we do not know the innermost thoughts of another. We see the outside only – what they allow us to see. We compare ourselves to what we see in others and judge ourselves according to those standards. We should not do this. We really need to look at ourselves through the eyes of our Lord.
God sees our hearts. He knows we want to be pleasing to Him. No one is perfect, not one. Only Jesus. If we were perfect, Jesus would not have had to suffer and die for our sins. What would happen if we asked Jesus about His opinion of us? I’m sure it would be so different than our own. He sees us covered in His Blood, washed clean – His spotless Bride.
When you love someone, you do not see all their faults. As the saying goes, love is blind. Eventually our eyes are opened to their shortcomings, but we love them in spite of their faults. The Lord’s love for us is not, nor even has been, blind. He sees everything about us and He loves us just the way we are. He knows that we are still “under construction”, being made perfect, but not there yet. There is a chapter in Lessons I learned from the Lord titled, “You’ve come a long way baby – but you’re not there yet.”
Perfection comes in heaven. Until then, we just have to keep running the race, not getting discouraged, but looking at ourselves through the eyes of the Lord.
Have you asked Him lately how He sees you?
Blessings, Evelyn
